About Broken Scar Productions

We have an exciting 2025 coming up with the release of "A Light that Never Fades". This short film has been meticulously created to reimagine the final part of Arthur Wharton's life. Arthur was the world's first professional football player and unfortunately died a forgotten, penniless man in 1930 Edington. Starring the wonderful Derek Griffiths (Playaway, Man Down, Coronation Street) as Arthur we see two former teammates visit and make him aware of what he has achieved and what his legacy is. Arthur's tale is a sad part of our shared history but we hope our little film does indeed shine a light on his amazing life and legacy. The film will be shown in film festivals throughout 2025 and we can't wait to show the world what we have achieved with this one. We have also been working on a little documentary about the wonderful shop Guru that existed for 51 years in the heart of Darlington and again we are hoping to get this film out for everyone to see in early 2025.

Mike Tweddle grew up in Darlington, County Durham, and still lives nearby. He started his creative journey with a punk rock fanzine 'Out of Control,' and later co-founded 'Inkslinger,' featuring bands like the Wedding Present and the Shamen. After a hiatus filled with travel and family life, Mike returned to writing and directing. His directorial debut was 'The Sign' (2009), followed by 'Rise of the North Star' (2011) and 'Damaged Goods' (2013). He is currently working on the feature film 'Sparrowhawk' and has written two novels, 'Down in the Dark' and 'The Secret of Feedback.

Mike’s fanzine 'Inkslinger' was featured in a book about fanzines and turned down an exclusive interview with the Stone Roses, who later became a major band. His film projects, though modest in budget, have received critical acclaim and he has continued to develop new and exciting content with support from generous backers.
